چکیده

SEGAL, Mrzyglod, and Smolarz-Dudarewicz (1964) described the successful surgical removal of a cysticercus from the macular region by a scleral approach. Reddy and Satyendran (1964) reported a series of ten patients, in eight of whom the location of the cysticercus was extra-ocular and in two intra-ocular. One of the latter was successfully removed surgically (technique not described) with unreported visual results; the other was found on routine sectioning of an enucleated phthisical eye. Barraquer (1964) reported the successful extraction of a cysticercus from the vitreous, the technique consisting of routine lens extraction (lens not cataractous) followed by incision of the anterior hyaloid, then extraction of the larva. Surgical removal of intra-ocular cysticercus is still uncommon enough to warrant reporting, and success is frequent enough to make this the method of choice. Technique can vary depending on whether the larva lies in the vitreous or is subretinal. An additional case, and the surgical technique used, is described below.

Ptosis: a rare presentation of ocular cysticercosis.

BACKGROUND Cysticercosis is a common parasitic infection involving multiple systems and caused by Cysticercus cellulosae, the larval form of the cestode, Taenia solium. The humans become infected by ingesting its eggs from contaminated food. Here, we present a case of ocular cysticercosis which presented with mild pain, ptosis, inflammation of upper eyelid and slightly restricted ocular motilit...

Infestation of extraocular muscle by Cysticercus cellulosae.

Reports of orbital cysticercosis are uncommon despite the high incidence of brain and ocular involvement. Infestation of extraocular muscle is exceedingly rare. Two cases of cysticercosis of the extraocular muscles are reported here. Surgical removal of the encysted parasites successfully resolved the infestation in both cases.

Intra-ocular foreign bodies; report of 102 cases.

THERE is no universally accepted "best" method of treating an intra-ocular' foreign body apart from its extraction from the globe. The controversial points may be summed up as: (a) anterior or posterior route of extraction, (b) diathermy of scleral field or simple incision, (c) Haab or Mellinger type of giant magnet. An intra-ocular foreign body is a surgical emergency and it is important to ke...

Experience with Extra-capsular Cataract Exraction and Intra-ocular Lens Implant in Children Expérience avec les extra capsulaire de la cataracte et Exraction intra oculaire Lens implants chez les enfants

BACKGROUND: In developing countries congenital cataract has become an important cause of treatable blindness in childhood. However, difficulty in correcting aphakia is one of the reasons for poor visual outcome. OBJECTIVE: To determine the visual outcome after extra capsular cataract extraction and intra ocular lens implant and factors militating against good visual outcome in children. METHODS...
